In Jesus' famous narrative of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16), He peels back the veil on Sheol/Hades before the Resurrection. Righteous souls rested in 'Abraham's Bosom' (Sheol's comforted realm) across a great chasm from torment.
When Jesus gave His life on the cross, He promised the repentant thief: 'Today you will be with Me in Paradise.' Following His ascension, Christ led captives out (Ephesians 4:8), moving believers directly into the heavenly presence of God.
Today, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Cor 5:8). Paradise is not an abstract realm, but intimate fellowship with King Jesus.
